Apple Inc. set the trend for Apps Store some 8 years ago with the launched of iTunes to complement their iPod product family. When iPhone was introduced in mid 2007, it triggered an awakening of its rivals. Only then they realised Apps Store potential which feeds iPod with audios, videos, games and custom applications. Rivals the like of Blackberry introduced App World, Google with Google's Android Marketplace, Palm has been talking about their App Catalog while Microsoft Marketplace for Mobile is still tightly wrapped. To date, the iTunes Apps Store has a collection of more than 60,000 applications with 1.5 billion downloads in just a year. Just for the record, more than a million iPhone 3 G S were sold within 3 days of its launch!
Well, the million dollar question is would Apple be relying on iTunes App Store to gain further inroads into the smartphone market? Considering the statistics described above, has Apple already been counting on iTunes to help sell more iPhones?
What do you think?.. Your views, comments and opinions on the above would be much welcome and appreciated.
